Skills

See the skills your agent has, install more from the marketplace or GitHub, and use the built-in Jev skill.

Builder mode

A skill teaches Hermes a tool or a kind of job. SettingsSkills lists the skills your agent already has and lets you add more, from the marketplace or straight from GitHub.

Opening Skills

Open SettingsSkills (open it). In builder mode it's under "Customize" in the Settings list. The section is described as "Installed skills and the marketplace. Each one teaches Hermes a tool."

It has two tabs, "installed" and "marketplace". "installed" opens first, and the number next to the "Skills" heading is how many your agent has.

Installed skills

The "installed" tab lists every skill on your agent, grouped by category, with the biggest groups first and "Other" for skills without a category. Each row shows the skill's name, its version (for example "v1.1.0") and a one-line description.

  • It never wakes your agent. While your agent is asleep, you see the last list the dashboard saved.
  • "Your skills will appear here in a moment." means no list has been saved yet. It fills in once your agent has been awake.
  • "No skills to show here yet." means the saved list is empty.
  • "↻ refresh" reloads the list.

Adding a skill

From the marketplace

The "marketplace" tab is a searchable list taken from the Hermes Skills Hub.

  • Search with the "Search" box (it shows how many skills there are). It matches a skill's name, description, category and tags.
  • Filter by source with the chips under the search box: "all", then each source with its count.
  • Each row shows the skill's name, where it comes from and a short description, with one of:
    • "install", to add it;
    • "built-in", for a skill that already comes with every agent;
    • "✓ installed", for a skill your agent already has.
  • The list shows 48 skills at a time. "Show more" adds the next batch and says how many remain. If nothing matches, you see "No skills match your search."
  • "Browse the full Hermes Skills Hub ↗" opens the hub's own site.

From GitHub or a web address

On the "marketplace" tab, under "Install from GitHub / URL", type a GitHub path such as owner/repo, or a web address starting with https://, then press "install" (or Enter).

Only letters, digits, underscores and the characters ./:@?=&#~- are accepted. Anything else gets a short message asking for a GitHub path or an https:// address, and nothing is installed.

What happens when you install

  1. The button changes to "installing…". If your agent is asleep, it's woken first.
  2. Installing can take up to 2 minutes.
  3. What the installer printed appears under the install box. Errors show in red, and when your agent's security scan blocks a skill, its verdict appears there too.
  4. The "installed" list reloads.

The installer can finish without an error even when the skill didn't install, so check that the skill now appears under "installed". If it doesn't, press "↻ refresh", then read the installer's output and try again.

If the dashboard can't reach your agent, you see "Couldn't reach your agent to install that skill."

Removing a skill

The dashboard has no button to remove a skill. The background curator (below) tidies skills on its own; it isn't a way to remove one you installed.

Jev, the built-in skill

Every paid agent comes with a skill called Jev. It's put back in place each time your agent starts, unless you've installed a skill of your own named jev, in which case yours is kept.

Jev is for "fast, cheap classification, scoring, and routing when the possible answers are defined before the call." It answers three kinds of question, about one item or a whole batch:

  • yes or no, for example whether a message needs a human;
  • pick one from a list you set, for example which queue a ticket belongs in;
  • a score on a scale you set, for example how urgent something is.

Its own instructions tell Hermes to avoid it for open-ended questions and money decisions. Jev isn't in the marketplace list; it shows under "installed" once your agent has started. Its provider keys stay out of your agent's command line.

What Jev costs

Who pays for Jev depends on your agent's main model, set under Models and keys:

Your main modelJev is paid by
MyHermes AIYour AI credits
Any other provider, with an OpenRouter key on your agent (as the main model or for one of the four task roles)That OpenRouter key
Any other provider, with no OpenRouter keyNobody: Jev can't run, and reports that it needs MyHermes AI credits or an OpenRouter key

While your main model is MyHermes AI, Jev uses your credits even if a task role has an OpenRouter key. Usage and credits shows your balance.

Keeping skills tidy

SettingsBackground tasks has one switch, "Auto-organize my skills", above the card that sets your agent's time zone. When the switch is on, a background curator tidies the skills your agent creates for itself as it learns: it removes near-duplicates, prunes stale ones and merges related ones. It starts on for Pro and off for Mini. See Memory and background tasks.

Skills and workflows

Thirteen of the 22 workflows on the Workflows page are each one ready-made skill. Installing one of those installs its skill, just as the marketplace does, and a skill you installed from here shows its workflow as installed. The other nine are built in and install nothing. See Apps and workflows.

Common questions

I installed a skill, but it isn't listed.

Press "↻ refresh" on the "installed" tab. If it's still missing, the install didn't take: read the installer's output under the install box, then try again.

Why does the list look out of date?

While your agent is asleep, the tab shows the last list the dashboard saved. It updates the next time your agent is awake and the list is read.

Can I remove Jev?

No. There's no remove button, and Jev is put back each time your agent starts.
