Using Hermes

Scheduled tasks

Ask Hermes for tasks that run on a schedule, then check their times, results and limits.

Hermes can do things for you on a schedule: a morning brief, a daily check on a topic, a monthly reminder. You set a task up by asking for it in plain words, and the Scheduled page shows every task, when it runs next and what it sent.

Asking for a task

There's no form. You ask Hermes in the web chat, or by messaging your bot on Telegram, and Hermes sets the task up.

Say how often, at what time, and what you want. For example:

Every weekday at 8am, send me a short morning brief: what's on my plate today and one headline worth knowing. Keep it under 150 words.

Every Friday at 4pm, send me a short recap of what we worked on this week and what's still open.

Every day at 7pm, check the price of [product link] and tell me only when it drops below [price]. If it hasn't, don't send anything.

Shorter works too. The For You page suggests saying something like "send me a morning brief at 7". Replace anything in square brackets with your own details before you send.

The "News check" and "Watch a topic" suggestions (below) also include this line: "Turn on continuity so you remember what you sent me last time and only tell me what's new."

Each scheduled task can run up to 24 times a day on Mini (about once an hour) and 96 times a day on Pro (about every 15 minutes).

The Scheduled page

Open the Scheduled page. In builder mode it's "Scheduled" in the sidebar. In simple mode the sidebar shows "For You" instead (see For You in simple mode), but the Scheduled page link works in either mode.

The page is titled "Scheduled Tasks": "Ask Hermes to run tasks on a schedule, send reminders or watch for updates." With no tasks yet it says "No scheduled tasks yet." and "Pick a suggestion below, or ask Hermes in chat."

While your agent runs on UTC, a line at the top may offer to switch it to your time zone (see Setting your time zone).

While a new agent is still being set up, the page says "Setting up your agent…" until it's ready.

Reading a row

Each task is one row:

  • Title. The task's name, or your request itself when Hermes named the task after it. A task with neither is titled by its schedule.
  • Schedule. For a repeating task, a plain-English line such as "At 08:00 AM, Monday through Friday", in your own time zone. A one-off reminder or an "every N minutes or hours" task shows its schedule as Hermes saved it (see Times and time zones).
  • When it runs next. "next" followed by how long until it runs, for example "next in 3 hours". A paused task says "paused" instead. A task due within the next 6 hours is highlighted.
  • When it last ran. "ran" followed by how long ago, or "failed" instead of "ran" if the last run ended in an error.
  • "See latest result" with how long ago it ran, once the task has run (see Reading results).
  • "Not sent to any chat." when the last result had nowhere to go (see Where results are delivered).
  • "Exceeds your plan's 24/day limit" (or 96 on Pro) when the task is set to run more often than your plan allows (see Limits).

Groups

Tasks are grouped by when they next run, and sorted by that time inside each group:

GroupHolds
TodayTasks due before the end of today, your time
This weekTasks due in the next 7 days
LaterTasks due after that, or with no known next run
PausedPaused tasks

Search and filters

  • "Search scheduled tasks" matches a task's name, its request and its schedule line.
  • "All", "Active" and "Paused" filter by status.
  • The count reads, for example, "5 tasks", or "2 of 5 tasks" while a search or filter hides some. If nothing matches, you see "No tasks match."
  • "↻ refresh" reloads the tasks and their runs.

While your agent is asleep

Opening the page never wakes your agent. While it's asleep, the page shows a saved copy of your schedule. That copy keeps each task's name (the name Hermes gave it, or else the first 200 characters of your request), but not your full request or how the last run went. So while your agent sleeps:

  • rows show no "failed" marker and no "Not sent to any chat." note;
  • search only matches names and schedule lines;
  • a task set to run more often than your plan allows isn't in the saved copy, so it's missing from the page until your agent is awake again.

The saved copy is updated whenever a chat starts or ends on your agent. If a task you just asked for isn't listed yet, press "↻ refresh".

If the list can't be loaded at all, the page shows a short reason instead, with a "↻ retry" button.

Suggestions

At the bottom of the Scheduled page, "Suggestions" offers ready-made tasks. It's there whether or not you already have tasks.

Clicking a card opens a new chat with the card's request already typed in the message box. It isn't sent. Replace anything in square brackets (such as "[topic]", "[product link]" or "[price]"), change the time or wording if you like, then press Enter.

The times on the cards are shown exactly as written, not converted to your time zone. The Morning briefing tutorial walks through one card from start to finish.

Reading results

  • "See latest result" on a row opens the chat of that task's newest run, where you can read what Hermes produced.
  • "Recent runs", below the tasks, lists up to 20 runs of the tasks shown ("Latest runs of the tasks above, newest first."). Each entry links to that run's chat and shows the date and time in your own time zone, plus how long ago it was. The search and the status filter narrow this list too.
  • In the sidebar, every run is also a chat of its own under "Recents", marked with a clock. Runs stay hidden until you click "Show scheduled runs".

These links come from your 200 most recent chats, scheduled runs included. A task that runs rarely, on an agent with lots of chats, may have no "See latest result" link once its last run has dropped out of those 200.

Where results are delivered

  • Created in the web chat: the result is sent to your Telegram home channel, your private chat with your bot. That home channel is set up when you connect Telegram (see Telegram).
  • Created by messaging your bot on Telegram: the result goes back to that Telegram chat.
  • Without Telegram: the result isn't sent to any chat, and the row says "Not sent to any chat." You can still read each run from "See latest result" or "Recent runs", as long as it's among your 200 most recent chats.

There's no setting to pick where a task's results go. "Not sent to any chat." only shows while your agent is awake, so a row without it isn't proof the result was sent.

Times and time zones

Your agent keeps time in its own time zone and runs your tasks by it. A new agent starts on UTC and stays on it until you set yours.

Setting your time zone

There are two ways to set it:

  • In Settings. Open SettingsBackground tasks (open it; the link works in simple mode too). The "Timezone" card says "Your agent runs in" and the zone. The list under it starts on your browser's time zone, not on the one your agent runs in, so check it shows the time zone you want, then press "Apply".
  • From the Scheduled page, once your agent has the update. While your agent runs on UTC, your browser is in another time zone and no change is going through, a line at the top of the page says "Your agent runs on UTC. Use" and names your time zone. Press "Set" to switch to it. Nothing changes until you press it.

Your agent restarts when the time zone changes. This one doesn't wait for the "Apply changes" banner: the restart happens straight away, and it also applies any Memory, Voice, skill curator or app settings change that was waiting for "Apply changes".

The card in SettingsBackground tasks says "Applying, your agent is restarting" and checks again every few seconds. When the change is through, it says "Timezone applied." (for 15 minutes), and "Your agent runs in" names your new time zone. The line on the Scheduled page only says "Applying, your agent is restarting", so check the card for the result. Then reload the Scheduled page.

While a change is going through, the list and "Apply" are locked, and MyHermes doesn't wake your agent for scheduled tasks, for up to 15 minutes. If nothing has happened after 15 minutes, the card says "This is taking longer than expected. Try again." and you can press "Apply" again.

Only the dashboard can change it: the card in Settings, or the line on the Scheduled page. Hermes can't change its own time zone from the chat.

If the card says "Your agent needs an update before its timezone can change.", your agent stays on UTC until it gets that update. Until then the card has no list and no "Apply", and the Scheduled page doesn't show its line. Check each task's row for its time.

What happens to tasks you already have

  • Repeating tasks keep their times. Each one is moved to the new time zone so it runs at the same moments as before. After the next daylight saving change, it follows your new time zone's clock. If your agent is still on UTC, set your time zone before your clocks next change: tasks moved then follow your clock.
  • A task saved in UTC keeps its UTC time. If a task you asked for at "8am" was saved as 8am UTC, it still runs at 8am UTC. Ask Hermes to change that task's time.
  • One-off reminders and "every N minutes or hours" tasks aren't changed.
  • If a task can't be moved exactly, nothing changes: your agent stays in its current time zone, and the card lists the tasks that "could not be moved" to your time zone "without changing when they run". Two examples: a monthly task whose run would fall on a different day, and a task that runs every hour but only on weekdays. Ask Hermes to change or delete them, then press "Apply" again. An app automation can be in this list too. It shows as the start of its request, or as "auto-" and a number. Change its schedule or delete it on its app's Automations page. Your agent also tries again each time it starts, so the change goes through once those tasks are fixed.
  • To cancel a change that was refused, or one the card says is taking longer than expected, pick the time zone your agent runs in now and press "Apply". While a change is going through, the list and "Apply" are locked.

Reading times on the page

  • For a repeating task, the schedule line is in your time zone. When your agent runs in the same time zone as your browser, it's the saved schedule exactly. Otherwise the page converts it. A one-off reminder or an "every N minutes or hours" task shows its schedule as Hermes saved it, not converted; go by "next in …" for those.
  • A zone name in brackets at the end, such as "(UTC)", means the schedule has no exact match in your time zone, so it's shown in your agent's time zone instead.
  • Hovering "next …" or "ran …" shows the exact date and time in your time zone.
  • Daylight saving time. If your agent's time zone differs from your browser's, the page converts with today's offsets, so check your rows again after the clocks change.
  • Suggestion cards show their times as written, without converting.

If a task's time isn't what you meant, ask Hermes in the chat to change it, then check the row again.

Changing or stopping a task

The Scheduled page has no edit, pause or delete buttons. To change a task's time or wording, or to stop it, ask Hermes in the chat, for example "stop sending me the morning brief". After a change, press "↻ refresh" to see it.

A paused task shows "paused" instead of "next …" and sits in the "Paused" group.

Limits

  • How often each task can run. Each scheduled task can run up to 24 times a day on Mini (about once an hour) and 96 times a day on Pro (about every 15 minutes). A task set to run more often shows "Exceeds your plan's 24/day limit" (96 on Pro). MyHermes doesn't wake your agent for it, so it only runs if your agent happens to be awake at the time. Ask Hermes to run it less often.
  • Waking up. MyHermes wakes your agent shortly before each task is due, even when it's asleep. It doesn't while a time zone change is going through, for up to 15 minutes.
  • Running-time cap. While your agent has reached its plan's running-time cap, MyHermes doesn't wake it for tasks. Plans and credits explains the cap.
  • After your plan ends, tasks aren't woken either.

For You in simple mode

In simple mode, the sidebar has For You: "What Hermes is doing for you on a schedule, and when it runs next."

It lists the same tasks, grouped the same way, with fewer details. Each row shows the task, its schedule (in your time zone for a repeating task), "next" with how long until it runs (or "paused", or "scheduled" when there's no next time to show), and "done" with how long ago once it has run. There's no search, filter, suggestions, "See latest result" or "Not sent to any chat." on For You; open the Scheduled page for those.

  • No tasks yet: "Nothing running for you yet." with a hint to ask in the chat, and "open chat →".
  • If it can't check: "I can't check what's running just now." and "Try again in a moment."
  • On the free tier: For You shows your one free daily task and its results instead. See Plans and credits.
  • If you set up a free daily task before you picked a plan, it's listed first, under "Your daily task from the free plan", with its own buttons. It isn't a task on your agent, so it isn't on the Scheduled page.
  • While your agent is being set up: "Getting Hermes ready…"

If something goes wrong

  • The time is wrong. If your agent still runs on UTC, set your time zone first (see Setting your time zone). Then ask Hermes in the chat to change the task's time, and check the row's schedule line.
  • The result never arrived. If the row says "Not sent to any chat.", connect Telegram so results have somewhere to go. You can still read the run from "See latest result".
  • The row says it exceeds your plan's limit. Ask Hermes to run the task less often.
  • The row says "failed". The last run ended in an error. Open "See latest result" to read what happened, and ask Hermes about it in the chat.
  • A new task isn't listed. Press "↻ refresh". If your agent is asleep, the saved copy updates when a chat starts or ends on your agent.
  • The time zone card lists some of your tasks. They can't be moved to the new time zone without changing when they run. Ask Hermes to change or delete them, then press "Apply" again. An app automation can be in this list too. It shows as the start of its request, or as "auto-" and a number. Change its schedule or delete it on its app's Automations page.
  • The card says your agent "could not switch" to your time zone. The switch failed without naming a task. Press "Apply" again, or pick another time zone.
  • "This is taking longer than expected. Try again." The change hasn't come through after 15 minutes. Press "Apply" again, or cancel it (see What happens to tasks you already have).
  • "That timezone is not valid." Pick a time zone from the list, then press "Apply" again.
  • "Your agent is still being set up. Try again in a minute." Wait a minute, then press "Apply" again.
  • "Couldn't apply the timezone. Try again." or "Network error. Try again." Press "Apply" again in a moment. If your agent couldn't be restarted, the change may still be recorded: after a reload the card can say "Applying, your agent is restarting" and keep the list locked for up to 15 minutes.
  • "Couldn't change it. Try again." This is the line on the Scheduled page. Press "Set" again, or use the card in SettingsBackground tasks.
  • The card says your agent needs an update. Your agent can't change time zone yet and stays on UTC. Check each task's row for its time.

Common questions

Can I create a task from the Scheduled page?

Not with a form. Pick a suggestion (it fills in the chat for you), or ask Hermes in the chat.

Does the task I picked when I first signed up show here?

No. What you pick in the first-run questions is your free daily task, and it lives in For You. It doesn't become a scheduled task on your agent, and it doesn't appear on the Scheduled page, even after you pick a plan (For You keeps showing it under "Your daily task from the free plan"). To have your agent do it, ask Hermes in the chat.

What's next

  • Morning briefing: set up a weekday brief, step by step.
  • Telegram: give your results somewhere to arrive.
  • Chat: where you ask for tasks and read their runs.
